Decoding the Jargon: Find Your Perfect Box Style

Navigating the packaging world can be confusing when different industries use different names for the exact same thing. To help you find exactly what your business needs, let’s break down the most common styles available across Australia.

The Core Essentials: Everyday Shipping Solutions

For most businesses, packaging falls into a few dependable categories. Understanding the structural differences can save you money on both material costs and courier fees.

  • Cardboard Boxes & Packing Boxes:
Your universal baseline. From moving house to storing inventory, standard cardboard is lightweight, reliable, and highly recyclable.
  • Corrugated Boxes & Shipping Cartons:
Built for heavier items or pallet stacking. These feature a wavy inner layer (the flute) sandwiched between flat outer sheets, providing immense structural strength and puncture resistance.
  • Stock Cartons:
Standard, pre-manufactured sizes kept ready to ship on our shelves. If you don’t need unique dimensions, buying stock sizes is the fastest and most cost-effective way to keep your packing lines moving.

E-Commerce & Retail: Making a Great First Impression

In digital retail, the moment your parcel arrives on a customer’s doorstep is your primary physical touchpoint. Your choice of e-commerce packaging directly influences your perceived brand value.

Box Size (Internal Measurements)

The Golden Rule: Always measure your product’s dimensions (Height x Length x Breadth) carefully before ordering. Note that all box dimensions listed are internal.
Choosing a box just 2cm too large can dramatically increase your void-fill usage (like bubble wrap) and bump your parcel into a higher domestic freight tier. If you need help finding the perfect fit, our team is here to assist!

Box Making FAQ's

Because we manufacture locally with advanced tooling-free machinery, we can support incredibly low startup runs.

Always measure the internal dimensions of the box required, using Length x Width x Height. Measuring your item directly and adding a 3–5mm buffer ensures a snug fit without wasting space or overpaying on domestic shipping tiers.

Yes! We can manufacture custom corrugated cardboard dividers, slots, and structural inserts to keep your products completely secure during transit. Contact our support team directly for complex structural layout designs.

Standard manufacturing turnarounds generally range between 2 to 7 business days from final artwork and dimensional approval. Freight transit times depend entirely on your delivery location at checkout.

Once your order is underway we will supply you a dieline to work with in PDF. You will be able to place your print exactly where you want it. We actually require 2  files for printing. 1 PDF with die lines showing your placement of text and/or image and 1 file with just the art work.

Choose based on the weight of your product and your shipping needs:

R-Flute (2mm - Sleek & Strong): The modern standard for e-commerce mailers and subscription boxes. It offers a smooth surface for sharp printing, space-saving storage, and excellent crush resistance.
B-Flute (3mm - Standard Strength): A slightly thicker option that provides extra cushioning for medium-weight retail items and standard shipping goods.
C-Flute / BC-Flute (Heavy Duty): Best for very heavy products, industrial shipping, or maximum stacking strength in warehouses.

Still not sure? Contact our team with your product's weight and dimensions, and we will recommend the perfect match!

It depends entirely on your brand's aesthetic and artwork design:

White Boxes: Best if your design uses bright colors, pastel tones, or requires clean white spaces. White cardboard makes your printed graphics look vibrant, sharp, and modern. Note: White boxes show dirt, scuffs, and transit dust much easier through the postal system.
Brown (Kraft) Boxes: Best if your brand has an eco-friendly, rustic, or organic identity. It works beautifully with dark or black ink designs, and naturally masks any scuffs picked up during shipping. Note that colored inks will appear more muted against the brown background.
Black Card (Flexo Printed): Best for a premium, luxury, or ultra-modern aesthetic. It creates a striking, high-end look right out of the mailbox and hides transit scuffs incredibly well. Note: We recommend using minimalist, high-contrast artwork (like white or metallic-style ink) for the best results on black card.

Tip: If you are worried about your boxes looking dirty after going through the mail, choosing Kraft or Black is an excellent way to keep your packaging looking pristine upon delivery.
Always fold your mailer box with the pre-creased lines on the INSIDE.

It sounds counterintuitive, but corrugated cardboard is designed to stretch on the outside and compress on the inside. Folding with the creases on the inside ensures clean, sharp corners and prevents the exterior paper from cracking or tearing.

Quick Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Place the box flat on a table with the inside surface (the side you want inside the box) facing up.
2. Gently pre-fold all the scored creased lines 90 degrees upward, toward you.
3. Fold the side walls up and tuck the front flaps into the double-walled sides to lock the base in place.

Tip: If the cardboard feels stiff or resists folding smoothly, check that you aren't folding it backward! Bending the lines inward should feel natural and create a clean, square edge.
